Safe drone flying depends on running the same check routine every single time. Experienced pilots are often the ones most likely to skip a step out of familiarity — and that's exactly when accidents happen.
Weather check
Recheck wind speed, precipitation, and visibility right before flying. Wind at altitude can differ significantly from what you feel on the ground, especially near tall buildings or in valleys, so conditions that look fine from the forecast can still produce gusts at flying height.
Aircraft check
Check battery charge, propeller condition, and firmware status. Older batteries can show a full charge but still deliver less actual flight time, so battery health is worth tracking over time too.
Airspace check
Confirm whether your planned location has flight restrictions and that any required approval is already in place. This matters even more at a location you haven't flown at before.
Turning these three categories into a 5-minute pre-flight habit meaningfully reduces the risk of accidents and equipment damage. Keep a written or app-based checklist and physically check off each item every time.
